The rear window release could also likely be the button itself on the rear wiper, as that's a common problem too.
3. Missing Terminal Edges. There is a chance that you are missing terminal edges on your window heat grid. If this happens to be the case, you can use a soldering gun to reattach them. 4. Battery. The battery could be the problem if you find that other aspects of the car are not working in addition to the defroster.

A manager from BMW NA called to inform me that the bottom three wires on the rear window defroster on my 2003 530i are non-functional, they do not heat, and are there for "cosmetics" only. Keep bugging them! The antenna amplifier thing in the right rear C-pillar is the next step. un1O2b.
